  1. I am working on training my little terrier mix Ellie. She is smart and learns fast. I am concerned with consistent training she might be getting too many treats that may make her get heavy. Am I worrying too much or what, if any, is the limit for daily training with all those treats

  2. Hi there, Welcome to the forums! The good news if you are concerned about using treats is that you can put your dog's daily ration of kibble to good use, rather than letting it go wasted in a bowl and being wolfed down all at once within seconds. Kibble works best for indoor training, while treats can be reserved for when you are outdoors and there are more distractions. Nowadays, there are also many low-calorie treats on the market. If you have a pet store nearby, you'll find many options and store clerks are always happy to provide suggestions. When using soft treats, you can give very small portions. I like to split the average treat is several small pieces. People are often surprised how many pieces I can get from just one treat. About how many treats to give daily, this varies. Most treats have labels that should inform you how many to feed max a day based on your dog's size/weight.
