I have a 3.5 yr old Australian Kelpie who has become quite reactive in the car while driving.

He started off air biting at vehicles now barks constantly the moment we head out in the car.

Thoughts on how to help him work through this.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forums,

In these cases, behavior modification is needed to get to the root of the problem, however, management-wise there are some shortcuts:

1) Keeping the dog crated when in the car

2) Using car window-side shades

3) Having the dog wear a calming eye mask

Behavior modification requires having a helper ride in the backseat with the dog and help the dog form positive associations with the trigger, the process is similar to this, but only that the helper will be working on whatever triggers him (moving vehicles zooming by) rather than people approaching: https://www.braintraining4dogs.com/members/archive/barking-strangers-car/

Let me know if you have any questions,

Best,

Adrienne
