My New Puppy is Barking at ME!

I have a new Maltipoo puppy named Stone. He is about 4 months old now. He loves to bite at my socks and pant legs. When I tell him "no", he stops moves away from me and then starts barking at me....quite an attitude! He also barks at me when I'm in the bathtub. Any suggestions?

 

I'll take suggestions on getting him to stop biting my socks and pant legs also! Ha!

Welcome to the forums! Stone sounds like quite a character! The word "no" doesn't provide dogs much info on what we want them to do.

The barking is likely your pup's way to protest for you stopping from interacting with him. When in the bathtub, although it may be annoying, it would help to come out only once your puppy is quiet. If you get out of the bathtub when your pup is actively barking, he may come to think that barking works in order to get you to come out. If the barking at times is continuous and doesn't seem to stop giving you the opportunity to get out, have a helper (like a family member or friend) redirect him to some other activity (some time in the yard, a brain game, access to an interactive toy) so that the barking doesn't obtain reinforcement.

Little dogs. :D It seems the smaller they are, the lippier they can be! Thank you for the giggle, he sounds like he's going to be quite a character. I started a couple threads in the Off Topic section for folks to share the good times (brags) and the bad times (laments) our canine counterparts give us. Somehow I feel Stone is going to give you some material to share and I wouldn't mind the company. :)
