Hates clicker

It’s been two days and the clicker seems to hurt more than help. She’s two and relatively well trained already. Should I stick with it? My gut says just bail.

Some dogs find the clicking sound too harsh for their sensitive ears. You have several choices here: muffle the sound of the clicker or simply replace its clicking sound with a verbal marker.

 

There are several tricks of the trade to muffle the clicking sound:

1) Keeping the clicker inside a pocket and clicking from there. It helps pairing the noise with high-value treats so to create positive associations.

2) Putting some layers of tape on the clicker again to muffle the sound. Once the dog learns that the click brings marvelous treats, you would then start peeling off a layer of tape so to allow the dog to get used to the clicking sound.

3) Using a retractable pen that clicks may be good enough, for starters.
