Moving From Puppy Pads

We recently got a new puppy a 2 month old Tibetan Spaniel. We were advised from the owner the the pup has started toilet training. Currently she will pee on puppy pads when the pads are left on the opposite side of the room and she is not able to access outside during the day while we are at work or at night. In the morning when we wake up, before we leave for work or over the weekend we have to carry her to the grass area to do her business, our back yard is raise and I don't thinks he can climb the stairs by herself so we have to lift her onto the grass. The training resource on the website if for a new un-train puppy but I am not sure where to start with the toilet training to get her to fully trained and for that matter what training we should be doing with her.

At 2 months (8 weeks) of age she's not going to have a lot of control, yet, so the puppy pads are going to be your friend for a while. As she grows she may be able to get to the grass by herself - she's still in that awkward toddler stage where she's learning how to use her legs. Such a cute age, where they're figuring out life in general. :)

The fact your puppy already goes on the pads is a big plus especially at this age! A 8 weeks, these pups have very little sphincter control so accidents are very common. If your final goal is having her go outside, it helps to keep the pads right by the door area so that she learns to go by the door when she has to potty and you can readily open the door when you are home before she goes. Make sure you have an un-obstructed view so that you can read her potty signals and take her out when you notice them.

 

When you take her out and she goes potty, make sure you praise and give a treat (always keep a treat bag on you). Jennifer gave you the link to train pups to go potty on command which is a great practice to speed up the process. As time goes by, you will notice things get better, she will start holding for longer times allowing you time to go to the door and open it so she can go outside. Right now, your pup is like a baby walking around with no diapers.
