PattyVaage Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Hi There! I have 2 sweet & smart mini Aussies~one is 1 year old male who has basic obedience training, the other 14 week old little sister. Do you have any suggestions on how to train 2 dogs without a helper? It’s very distracting working with both at the same time, but the other will get upset to be locked away while I spend one on one time. Thankyou! 🌻. Patty
Adrienne Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 Hi Patty Vaage, Welcome to the forums! Have you tried locking the other dog away along with some long-lasting treat? Like a stuffed Kong to keep the dog occupied while you are training the other? I have used this strategy and dogs usually come to look forward to seeing the other dog being trained because they associate it with getting good stuff. You may have to try to find a middle ground distance where the dog crated isn't too far as to feel socially isolated and not too close as to get frustrated. Sometimes, covering the crate with a blanket may help if the dog gets visually frustrated by seeing the other dog being trained.
PattyVaage Posted June 7, 2020 Author Posted June 7, 2020 Oh those are great suggestions! Thankyou very much!
