Marlene Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Hi my dog has eaten a latex cooking glove. My question is will this be a problem for him or will it come out in his poo. Does it break down in his stomach. In the past he has also eaten foil that was in the ground at a park. He isn't unwell and has been going potti without a problem. Running and playing is all normal.
Adrienne Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Hi there, These are delicate situations as whether objects will pass through without problems in general depends on several factors such as how big your dog is (smaller dogs and puppies have a harder time passing things because their intestinal tract is smaller) whether your dog chewed up the glove or swallowed larger pieces, how thick the gloves are, material, how long ago it was ingested etc. Your best option is to call your vet for directions. Depending on how long ago the glove was ingested, your vet in general may tell you to induce vomiting based on your dog's weight (usually this is an option only within two hours of ingestion), close monitoring for the next days or an evaluation with possible x-rays to see how things are moving through. Best, Adrienne
Marlene Posted July 19, 2020 Author Posted July 19, 2020 Just an update, the latex glove he ate , he managed to throw it up 2 weeks later. Yes this shocked me too...
Adrienne Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Oh wow, that's quite a long time! Thanks for the update. At the vet's office we once had a dog throw up a sock two weeks later. Glad to hear it wasn't anything major to worry about. Best, Adrienne
