JUDITH WEICHBRODT Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 We just got our rescue pup. She’s a 3 year old Catahoula who was rescued from a puppy mill as a momma. She does not like being left and we must crate her to keep her safe and not tearing things up. I came home today after a few hours and she had a scratch on her nose. How can we prevent this? I’m afraid she’s only going to make it worse.

How often do you head out? and for how long usually? Did you leave her with something to keep occupied with when in the crate? Was she walked/exercised/given mental stimulation prior to being crated? Were you able to work on "love the crate" exercises? If you just got her, this may take time. Do you have any family members/neighbors who can watch her when you are away? https://www.braintraining4dogs.com/members/video-archive/love-the-crate/ I am concerned that she may suffer from containment phobia (many puppy mill dogs last thing they want is to be crated) or separation anxiety. Both can cause dogs to panic and even harm themselves when left alone. She may have pushed on the crate with her nose to try to move the bars and escape.
