I’ve had my yorkiepoo for 9 years. started off potty training her in a bathroom with puppy pads which didn’t really work on & off. eventually she got the hang of going outside for walks and knowing when to potty, but she would have slip ups in the house every now and then but I would think that’s just normal. through the years that would be the routine, she goes outside & does her business, I tell her “go potty” etc. but i’ve been finding as she’s gotten older she’s been having more accidents inside the house, especially on furniture or her own bed. I know it’s not easy for her to communicate that she has to potty but my sisters dog lets us know very clearly. he’ll bark really loud at the door. but my yorkiepoo doesn’t do that. she’ll just eventually use it in the house. she always goes to the front door and wants to wander around on the front porch but I can’t tell if she thinks she has to be taken on a walk in order for her to do her business or just to sun bathe because I know she likes to do that as well. now that i’m moved out of my moms house and into my own apartment i’m hesitant about taking her with me. I don’t have the time to take her on a walk three or more times a day and i’m afraid she will have accidents inside the apartment. she also has anxiety so I’m not sure how she’ll adjust being away from what she’s used to & my sisters dog. part of me thinks she’ll be fine staying with my mom but I also have an urge to have her all to myself. but if I do that how do I go about retraining her to potty only outside? is there a way that she could understand that she can only do that outside? thanks so much if you’ve read this far!

But I definitely feel that me training him more with the doorbell ring/smacking sound & going to his place will make a drastic change in him being more independent and the barking.

Well my sister actually lives in a different state and has a busy lifestyle to keep him so that’s why he stays with us, when we leave the house he’s pretty chill, he’ll just watch us leave from the front door window lol. but when we come back we usually find that he urinates in the house, we don’t know why he does that because he knows to potty outside.

he doesn’t get into trash or chew up stuff, he’s good on that but he’s 7 so he’s getting a bit older but I will work on the door exercises with him. he can be picky with food but he eats his kibble & loves jerky treats, never tried pumpkin...so for practicing purposes how often should I do this and is using the kong only for when you’ve actually left the house?

okay I will start training him more with the doorbell. and yes, to follow someone in the room, once he’s let in he’ll just lay on the bed with you but then as soon as he hears something going on outside the door he wants to go back out and then come back in it’s a repeated cycle. same thing when going outside, we usually let him out 3 times a day but he cries at the door even after going out an hour or two prior. I wouldn’t say he’s completely potty trained because even though he goes outside a lot he’ll still have problems peeing in the house but to explain his cage size he really only has just enough room to lay on his side/back. a food/water bowl really wouldn’t fit.

definitely will work on making his cage more comfy and getting him a bigger cage so he has more room. as for the barking/whining are you saying we should just ignore it? usually when someone is near our door it will make a sound and he has gotten used to that sound as meaning “someone’s here” so I started training him into associating that door ring sound into the smacking sound & giving him a treat when he looks at me stops barking. the other barking/whining that’s a big problem is just in the house in general when he wants to get in a room, it’s back and forth & he sometimes he won’t stop until someone lets him in but it gets tiring doing that 10 times a day.

My sisters dog (bichon frise poodle) is usually never caged unless he is in trouble but sometimes we put him in there because he has a barking/whining problem around the house when he wants to get into a certain room or to get anyone’s attention for something. we usually have to keep all of our doors open because we know he while whine/bark for forever to try to get into a room. he usually sleeps all around the house but at times like this we put him in his cage and he goes crazy with the whining & barking. I tried covering his cage with a blanket and that didn’t help much. I’ve told my family he isn’t used to being locked up so we have to set a routine but they have trouble following through with that. how can I get him to stop this? he needs to know he isn’t the boss and that being in his cage is necessary when it’s time for bed so he isn’t constantly whining/barking door to door.

my two dogs are constantly always barking at other dogs from the backyard, inside, to the front porch. anytime I am sitting on the porch and they’re unleashed, when someone walks past they will bark for no reason. also today, a girl walked past holding her dog and both of them ran towards her barking! I tried to grab one and take her into the house but she just ran right back out and my other dog was on his hind legs on her. He would not get down no matter what I said until I got help from other family members to bring them inside. it’s just embarrassing how they act. when we let them outside in the backyard they are either barking at the other dogs next door (loudly) or the neighbors across from us. same thing when there’s guest. one of my dogs in particular will growl and run towards the door barking if there is a guest at the door. Ive tried to work on the doorbell method and going out in the backyard and walking them on a leash towards what they’re usually barking at and giving them treats but idk if it’s been working.

So my Yorkie Poo has always been afraid to eat out of her bowl and drink ever since I got her. When I first noticed this problem I thought maybe she’d get over it but years later she’s still afraid. When I first got her I thought maybe it was just metal bowls she was afraid of because of how her collar hits the bowl (I take it off but she’s usually still scared) but when I tried with a plastic still the same thing. I tried with a paper plate but that gets annoying & it slides when she eats. She’s ok with food now but she’ll still be scared and creep over the bowl, and have this type of stance like she’s prepared to run lol. If I sit with her and watch her eat she’ll be a little bit more relaxed. She’s definitely worse with water! If the bowl isn’t filled up all the way she’ll be too scared to drink it, again I thought maybe it’s because of the sound her collar makes but even when taking that off it’s the same. The less water that is in her bowl the more she’ll be scared to put her head in drink. recently she discovered the water hose outside that drips water and she’ll try to drink from there but water will get in her nose and she’ll start making these noises but she’ll still go back to drinking from the hose. Now every time she wants water she’ll come and get me and lead me to the door and goes straight there! Sorry this was so long but really hope you can help.

hi. I recently bought your training program and have been training my two dogs. at the moment I’ve gotten them to lay down and stay pretty good but one of my dogs doesn’t properly know how to sit. I’ve been trying to teach her but it seems that the dog is supposed to be standing prior to raising the treat above the nose so they can sit but she always is in a sitting position. I don’t know how to train her to sit if she doesn’t stand first. I tried standing her legs up but she sits right back down haha. even when I put it in the air she’ll jump and stand for a bit but sit down really fast after. hope you can help, thanks!
