Hi everyone, I have a 14 week old German Wirehaired Pointer who we only got two weeks ago, I am trying to absorb as much info on training and obedience as possible! He is doing very well with lots of basic obedience but I have a question about walking. Since he is so high energy we walk him twice a day for around 20 minutes each walk. He walks well on the lead and shows engagement with me for only small sections of the walk but spends most of the time sniffing, stopping and increasingly pulling on the lead. I have been practicing heel walking in the house and backyard and he is slowly getting there, but am I hurting this training when we go on these longer outdoor walks? He is on a standard flat collar and I am considering getting a slip lead - if I do should I only use it in full training mode walking in the house, or on his longer outdoor walks too? I have watched lots of videos on training not to pull, but am struggling with that versus his need to expend energy on longer walks. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Ben
