Thank you Adrienne for getting back to me so quickly. I see what you mean by it’s not easy to answer this as there is some quite contradictory research. I just love seeing Teddy so happy and excited when I get home, I can’t resist his kisses and hugs! I just hope that this isn’t going to cause him to have more separation anxiety than he would have had anyway. I have read that Maltipoo breads suffer from separation anxiety. The first couple of nights when we first got him at the age of 11 weeks, he would cry for 2-3 hours after being put to bed downstairs in the crate, he would cry so loudly that we could hear him upstairs, so then we moved the crate into the corner of our bedroom and it did the trick - we didn’t hear a squeak from him, he was so calm and slept through the entire night without any anxiety. Teddy is now nearly 5 months old, should we just continue to keep him in the crate in bedroom (I don’t mind) or are we supposed to get him used to being on his own and bring the crate back downstairs? It doesn’t cause us any problems having his crate in the bedroom at night but I don’t want to form any bad habits if it’s not healthy for Teddy if you know what I mean

A dog trainer has suggested not to have an over excited and hyped up greeting with your puppy when you arrive home because this kind of behaviour can lead to more separation anxiety when you leave them alone at home. Is this true? I’d like to know your views on this as I love greeting my puppy and enjoy encouraging him to release the happy hormones

Thank you so much for such a detailed response!!!! I’m definitely going to give all of that a try. Also his crate was downstairs, so it’s really helpful to know to have it in the bedroom. We kept it downstairs because we have wood flooring downstairs and carpet upstairs, and we have put a stair gate in to stop him from coming upstairs, incase he does any accidents on the carpet. Can I also ask if I am going out for 2 hours during the day, should I leave him alone at home in his crate straight after taking him outside or should I shut him in a room where he can pee/poo on wood flooring incase he needs to.

Teddy is a Maltipoo, he is 12 weeks old and I’m trying to potty train him at the moment. He’s had a few accidents peeing in the snug fit crate over-night, despite last meal/water time at 6pm and being taken out in the garden at 11pm, so I’ve had to give him a bath in the morning to get rid of the urine smell from him. I was just wondering how often he could have a bath/shower?

How often can we give a puppy a bath/shower? My puppy really enjoys jumping in the muddy wet leaves and he really enjoys having a bath too!
