  1. There is a trainer named Garrett Stevens who has created a collar that he says works better than the prong collar. He custom makes them. I have not tried it but you might want to check it out.
  2. So I know what I am about to say will not be popular here, but I have found using a prong collar for training has made a night and day difference with our dog Sasha. We only put it on her for walks and it immediately comes off when she gets home. She has ceased lunging and trying to jump on people when we are on walks.
  3. What is interesting is that she doesn't seem so interested in grass but in the moss growing in the midst of the grass. She doesn't touch grass where there is no moss growing. We live in Washington state where moss is plentiful. I have areas where I tried to clear out the moss, but there is still quite a bit.
  4. Thank you so much for your response and the great advice. Sasha is about 5 1/2 months old and I feel confident we can make changes. Also, to clarify, she is eating pieces of bark. She has not been too vocal.
  5. We sometimes play a game with our dog in the house where she has a toy and we play chase her around to get it. She usually comes outside when we call her. However, when she wants to eat the moss in the grass, she doesn't come. If we try to go get her she runs around. I am wondering if the game inside is causing problems outside when we need her to stop eating the moss and bark from the garden too and are telling her to come.
  6. I have a Rottsky who is not quite 16 weeks old. I am working on training her with sit, lay down, stay, and come. She is very smart. I don't want to expect more out of her than I should in regard to her "getting it." What expectations are reasonable for a pup her age? Also, walks can be interesting. She sometimes walks fine, sometimes pulls on her leash, and sometimes stops and flips herself over... usually all in one trip around the block. She gets very excited when it is time to go on a walk. Any insight on what is going on in her puppy brain? She is projected to be 80 pounds and so I am trying to train her well before she can knock me over. :)
