Won’t do as told

My 3 year male dog has got to ignore my commands  I tell him to sit which he does but he won’t stay until I tell him to move he gets up when he wants to

Is this a new behavior? In the past 3 years you have had him, has he behaved this way? 

How long are you asking him to sit for? 

Where are you asking him to sit? Are there lots of distractions happening?

Is he trained to hold a stay?

He has always been a well behaved dog but just lately he won’t always do as he’s told  but I will read your troubleshooting page.  Thanks

You are very welcome! If this is totally out of character for him, it may also be worthy making sure nothing is going on physically, such as it being painful for him to sit for long.
