Could you suggest a dog collar that would be good to walk a 100+ pound 1 year 4 mos Great Pyrenees. I have tried gentle leader, slip on training lead (thick yacht rope) and harness. The former two created new problems. The harness is good except when he becomes over-reactive to situations. Then, it’s a struggle to hold him. I  have only been working with your training techniques for several days. Thank you.

Hi there!

Welcome to the forums! There are different makes and models of harnesses, and my go-to ones are the ones with the leash that attaches to a front ring. For safety, I like to attach the leash to both the front ring and a collar that has tags. If he is becoming over-reactive to situations, consider that he is likely over threshold, so you may have to adjust your plan so that he's not exposed to such full-intensity situations. Here is a read on threshold levels:

Happy training!

FYI: I found one. 👍

Hi Jerilyn,

Would you mind sharing which collar you went with?  There are several Great Pyrenees around the forum, and more to come I'm sure!   I'm willing to bet they'd love to know what you found.

I apologize for not seeing this before today. I kept his regular collar. However, I have a harness with a front attachment and bought a y shaped leash for the collar and harness front. It works very well, and I’m confident when working with him on the leash.
