What should we do if our dog knows what we are requesting (sit for instance) and doesn’t do it?

In these cases, we would want to troubleshoot what may be going on and act accordingly. It's important to avoid getting angry or frustrated with the dog. This only causes dogs to become more reluctant and adverse to training. Despite what it may look like, dogs aren't spiteful or vindicative and they don't voluntarily disobey to upset us or because they want to "be the boss."

Dogs simply perform behaviors which produce positive outcomes or gets them out of negative situations. This is known as reinforcement.
