MICHELE GOTT Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Any idea how to keep a puppy from taking my hand off when giving treats? Those razor sharp teeth draw blood!
Adrienne Farricelli Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Hi there! Welcome to the forums! Yes, here are some exercises for a more gentle mouth: https://www.braintraining4dogs.com/members/archive/train-dog-take-treats-gently/ Use gloves initially if your pup has a really rough mouth, and when you don't have time to train reward by simply tossing the treats rather than hand feeding them. Once you have a softer mouth, using your hands like a Kong, can help further emphasize that licking is rewarded, while rough mouthing is not: https://www.braintraining4dogs.com/members/archive/my-hand-made-kong-trick/ Happy training!
